Approach.

As an art therapist, Monica integrates person-centered, strengths-based, and relational cultural frameworks into her clinical approach. She believes that a strong therapeutic relationship is key to fostering change, and that art is a helpful tool for creating connection.

Monica honors the knowledge and lived experience of each client, acknowledging the impact of systemic oppression on our individual and collective wellness.

Monica provides traditional talk therapy in addition to an arts-based approach. Her counseling style is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth, inviting curiosity and creativity into each session.

Even without the use of art materials, Monica encourages clients to visualize new possibilities and perspectives within their lives. She utilizes a variety of interventions from CBT and mindfulness practices to help clients explore their internal belief systems with self compassion.

Monica is a harm reduction therapist who addresses substance use and other maladaptive behaviors from a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive lens. She views substance misuse as a means of resiliency against life’s challenges.
